This month Bapak Waleed returned to Singapore for the next installment of his mission to promote and share the traditional cultural arts of Silat Minang and Silat Tuo.
On this trip he was invited, once again, by the Singapore Silat Federation to come and look at their programs, meet with their students, and present a lecture on Silat Minang Traditionale and Silat Tuo. Also, he was invited to attend a special ceremony recognizing some the federation's students for their participation and success in recent international world games.
While there, Bapak Waleed visited with the SIngaporean Minister of Foriegn Affairs, and they spoke about cultural arts and potential exchange programs. Bapak Waleed was then given a grand tour of the Malay Heritage Museum by the Minister and his staff. This museum is one of the oldest of its kind in the region.
Bapak Waleed then further went on to meet witht the Indonesian Embassador to Singapore. They discussed the progress of various educationa and cultural programs, and the officials expressed their gratitude at the strides being made. Also, Bapak Waleed was invited to meet with prominent Minang business owners in the area.
As always, these trips serve as a means to build bridges between different peoples and groups, bringing them together through the atrs and education.
