On Thursday, the Rector of Andalas University in Padang invited Bapak Waleed to come and meet with him and several other of the top officials, faculty, and deans of the University. Universitas Andalas is the oldest university in Indonesia outside of Java, and houses faculty in 11 different colleges, including Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Law, Economics, Social & Political Science, and Pharmacy. Universitas Andalas is one of only 6 universities in the country with the highly acclaimed International Students Association program. The Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Musliar Kasim, greeted Bapak Waleed warmly and they began to talk about the various different initiatives that Bapak works on throughout Indonesia and abroad. At Andalas, the faculty and staff were already familiar with Bapak Waleed's status as teacher of Silat Tuo both in Indonesia and abroad. They were very happy to hear updates from him about his teaching and activities in the States. Also in attendance was Hendri Agung, Executive Assistant to the Mayor of Padang, Fauzi Bahar, who was instrumental in facilitating the meeting that took place. Several of the Rector's head staff members were there, including Dr. Ir. Syafrimen Yasin and Dr. H. Elfi Sahlan Ben, as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Febrin Anas Ismail. The topic of conversation then switched to some of Bapak's other educational efforts, including his current push to educate the people of Indonesia about the potential and possibility of biogas as a sustainable energy alternative to traditional fuels. The Rector, staff, and faculty were so pleased to hear Bapak Waleed's initiative and drive in this area that they welcomed him back again next week to speak to a larger audience of faculty, staff, and also students working in the field.
