On Wednesday July 17, Bapak Waleed paid a special visit to see the Mayor of Padang, the capital of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Mayor Walikota Fauzi Bahar accepted Bapak Waleed at his residence in the morning, as the first guest of the day.  The Mayor and Bapak have been very supportive of each other in their various efforts, and have collaborated together in promoting events and educational activities to maintain and preserve the beauties of the culture of West Sumatra and the Minangkabau people.

The Mayor has also encouraged Bapak to continue with his efforts in educating the people in the region about the possibilities for biogas as an alternative source of energy.  Due to Indonesia's current energy crisis and the rolling blackouts that are hitting many large cities around the country, this topic is especially important for the purpose of helping the people to help themselves.

Also, behind the Mayor's residence is a reception hall that is used for many official events and festivals.  The walls of that room feature pictures from important events that have happened around the region, highlighting the unique cultural aspects of West Sumatra.  Bapak Waleed's picture is featured prominently there, from his participation and demonstration at the 'Silat Tradisional Festivale' held in Iman Bonjol Court in Spring 2007
