Indonesian Dance Festival

October 28th through 31st, 2008 - Jakarta, Indonesia

The Indonesian Dance Festival is a prestigious annual event celebrating the richness and beauty of Indonesian dance in its many forms. Renowed artists are invited from all across south east Asia and indeed the world to come, present, and perform.

Bapak Waleed was invited to attend the main performances as a VIP guest. Throughout the event, he was approached by many performers, teachers, and masters of the dance. Strong partnership were forged, opening the way for promising collaborations in the future. In addition, Bapak Waleed was reunited with masters of the dance whom he had hosted and colloborated with in the past.

About IDF

The Indonesian Dance Festival (IDF) was established in 1992, initiated by a group of Indonesian dance artists: Dr. Sal Murgiyanto, Nungki Kusumastuti, S.Sn., M.Sos, Melina Surja Dewi S.Pd,M.Si, Maria Darmaningsih S.Sn,M.Ed., Dedy Lutan S.Sn., Tom Ibnur S.Sn., supported by Prof. Sardono W. Kusumo, Dr. Julianti, Farida Oetoyo, etc.

Choreographers from various levels , national as well as international have performed their works at IDF, such as Martinus Miroto, Kim Maeja (Korea), Mugiyono Kasido, Eko Supriyanto, Boi G. Sakti, Sardono W. Kusumo, Ku Ming-Shen (Taiwan), Min Tanaka (Jepang), Takiko Iwabuchi (Jepang), Arco Renz (Belgia) , Cezerine Barry (Australia), Janis Brenner (Amerika Serikat), Yamada Un (Jepang), etc.

The festival is presented in corporation with Performing Arts Faculty-Jakarta Institute of The Arts and The Government of DKI Jakarta Province, Jakarta Arts Centre Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta Arts Council and P4TK Seni Budaya, Yogyakarta.
